Bushenyi
town came alive when a street was sealed off for party purposes.
A political town with historical ties to the UPC (Uganda People’s
Congress), the town was reminded of the days when former President
Milton Obote visited the rural district.
By 7p.m. hundreds of revelers had gathered on Liberation Street
waiting for the roll out of a new network, Uganda Telecom
(utl).
Captain Emma of BFM radio received a thunderous welcome
– he did two songs – Va ku ngambo and Give it
to me.
At 9.30p.m., fireworks ushered in a new telephone network
and calls went for Shs 200 per unit to all networks. According
to utl’s Road Shows and Promotions Executive, Dan
Komunda, people in Bushenyi will continue to make calls
at Shs 200 per unit for a whole month.
Dickson Tumwesigye won a motorcycle in a draw that saw
other revelers win lamps, generators, t-shirts and airtime.
Maisha Dancers, Lady Peace, Rockie Giant, Mosh, Clever J
and Sweet Kid also rocked the small town.
