| Nagenda
in secret wedding
Senior Presidential Advisor on Media and Public Relations,
John Nagenda, last Friday walked one Immaculate down the
aisle at St. Steven’s Church in Buloba, on Mityana
Road. Wedded by retired Bishop Wilson Mutebi, the function
was attended by less than 20 people, including Prime Minister,
Apolo Nsibambi, and the Minister of Works, John Nasasira,
who was actually Nagenda’s best man. Nagenda later
hosted his guests to a reception at Kampala Serena Hotel.
Kisoro beer dries as Sudhir launches FM
The south-western town of Kisoro saw the first digital
radio station launched last week.
88.9FM Voice of Muhabura will compete with Radio West and
Voice of Kigezi for listenership in the south-western region.
The station, owned by top Kampala businessman Tom Mugenga’s
son, Fred, was launched by another Kampala businessman,
Sudhir Ruparelia on May 1.
Indeed Sudhir and his friend Godfrey Kirumira were part
of the Kampala business group that escorted Tom Mugenga
to this event.
Upon arrival at the Kisoro airfield, the huge crowd that
met them excited Sudhir so much that he immediately offered
100 crates of beer and soda.
News of Sudhir’s ‘manna’ quickly spread
and in no time the whole town had descended upon the Mugengas’
large compound where singer Jose Chameleone was performing.
However, all the beer and soda was consumed in less than
three hours! This forced Sudhir to immediately order a ‘second
round’, but the UBL area depot had ran out of stock!
Locals mounted a search for beer and returned with about
80 crates which Sudhir paid for before the group flew back
to Kampala.
7 Ugandans eye Miss EA
Seven Ugandans are in the race for Miss East Africa UK
2008. Barbara Kiloy Otim, Nelly Kibirige, Lydia Okiya, Zaina
Ahmed, Sophia Nanono, Diana Nanteza and Victoria Martin
are all flying the Uganda flag.
The grand double crowning event will take place in London’s
Bloomsbury Theatre on July 26. The winners will reportedly
be crowned by Miss England. Our own Maureen Nyakaira is
the reigning Miss East Africa UK. Can another Ugandan lap
it in?
'L-Word' celeb sneaks into K'la
Let’s just say that Uganda has had its fair share
of celebrities visiting and caring less about being recognized;
and that is exactly what happened with ‘L-Word’
actress Mia Kirshner who acts as Jenny Schecter. If you
were not at Kabira Country Club last weekend, you missed
seeing her but the pint sized, very beautiful actress did
not only stay here but also took time off to swim and sit
by the bar. All that gave her away was her jet black hair
and that unmistakable voice. If you have not watched the
‘L- Word’, you better imagine ‘Sex and
the City’ but this time a television drama that portrays
the lives of a group of lesbian and bisexual women and their
friends, family and lovers in the trendy city of West Hollywood.
For those who were stuck on 24, Kirshner appeared in the
first three episodes of 24 as bisexual terrorist Mandy.
Other celebrities that have visited Uganda and escaped with
being captured by paparazzi include Bill Gates, Prince William
and Angelina Jolie.
Boys in September bounced at Silk
They may be your stars but not to bouncers at Club Silk.
Boys in September turned up early for the Smirnoff Street
Jam. And as they waited for the show to start, they decided
to get access to the club. But poor boys did not know that
only those with green ribbons were allowed inside. The group
got the shock of their lives when the bouncers threw them
out in front of their fans. Sorry guys! Next time!
Classic Letter:
Reply to Sugar Tapi Tapi
Dear Honie
My Love, My Sugar, I was exasperated with pride to have
received one from you, the lungs in my body flapped with
joy when I have been reading your letter. Anyway by now
you have reached the realisations to why I am jotting this
small letter to you, yes it is to see if you are keeping
with the sands of time.
How is everything on that other side of yours? Well here
everything is just half lemon half sugar to make it Schweppes.
How is your schooling?
How are you pulling the wagons of life? I am just pulling
the schooling thing like a donkey pulling a cart.
My honie, I am missing you very much right now, my heart
is perambulating with every word that I write, if it was
not for these oceans that decided to flow between us then
I would get on the next bus to come and see you, but until
then I know that I will not hesitate to put this blue blood
on this paper and write to you.
I remember that day lovie, that one sweet day as Maria
Curry [sic] sang it, you know that it is my favourite song
honie, the one day that we were boarding the combies and
you escorted me to my home, walking with you just brought
sweet dreams to me for the rest of my life honie.
If words of love could ride a bicycle I would be competing
against marry carrie. Anyways, I will not stop you from
reading the books that give you life and education so I
will stop here for today.
Please keep writing to me because I am missing you like
sugar misses tea.
Keep well my mop of my heart,
Yours in flesh and in blood,
Ruise Sugar Baby
