| Kyeyo man is stuck
in Soho |
| Gus is still on my case. He has decided that
we should all bring our work permits and passports for inspection. |
| Perils of movie
watching on a coach |
| Lira is four hours from Kampala if you go by
the speeding Isuzu buses. Until recently, passengers would read
a newspaper, novel, or dose off, only to be woken up by the
ringing bus bell, as the bus screeches to a halt in a familiar
town along the way. |
| THEIR WORDS...
NOT MINE! |
I haven’t committed a crime. What I did
was fail to comply with the law. —David Dinkin, who
was the Mayor of New York City from 1989 to 1993 and is the
first African American to be Mayor of New York City. |
| Hanging up your
special memories |
| Photo frames many times hold those very vivid
memories that come with each snap that we take. |
| The relevance of
the blood |
| I love the way I say simple prayers sometimes,
but because I remind Satan of the blood Jesus shed for me, I
see ‘mountains’ move as I watch. |

| Rise and fall of
the legends |
| Funny how short our memories can be when it comes
to matters of the “heart” – entertainment
and sports. |
| Buke’s man
at Pier One |
| Friday night found me in the famous Ugandan nightspot
Pier One. Located in East London, Pier One is sandwiched between
a furniture shop and Africoco, a Ghanaian Restaurant cum club
on Dalston High Street. |
| The best time to
pray |
| here are certainly times when you feel spiritually
weak and your prayer life on a downward slope mainly due to
attacks from the devil, trying to stop your spiritual warfare.
|
| It can be cheap
but cool |
I live next to a murram road and eating dust
is part of my daily menu.
It doesn’t matter how much you tuck yourself in, there
will always be a fine layer of dust that settles on anything
you see and touch. |
| Crisis of textbooks
in many schools |
| The persistent lack of textbooks in many public
and private schools is one of the most serious shortcomings
affecting academic performance. |

| Scribe flies Uganda
flag in America |
| Until recently, I only paid lip service to my
country. I have only voted once, yet I am way past 18. Nor have
I paid graduated tax since leaving school in 1996. |
| Hurray! Soccer
is in town |
| The impending kick off to the new English Premier
League season is about to end the three months drought in Kampala’s
bars. |
| And the new Miss
Uganda is…. |
| Twenty-year old Doris Atigo is not your conventional
beauty queen material. She is not skinny, and has a large behind,
her only beauty queen trait being the warm smile. |
| Finally, professional
hairdressing |
| There is one thing most women dread; paying a
lot of money for hairdressing only to walk away with a shoddy
job. Now with Soft Sheen Carson Professional Hair Academy, there
will soon be more professionals. |
| Why we belong to
particular churches |
| Many Christians find no reason why they should
belong to any church, as long as they believe in God. |
| Kyeyo man is exploited |
| Gus, the factory supervisor, has taken it too
personal. Yet, all I ever did was make a tongue-in-cheek comment
about his yellow teeth. |

| 11-year genius
at Shimoni |
| A light skinned, ruddy girl walked into the office
and greeted the teachers in a low but firm voice. |
| When death strikes
inside your home |
| I lost a very close family (well, almost) member,
exactly one week ago. Ronnie was our driver and a very close
friend of my children. |
| Kyeyo man dares
his big boss, Gus |
| I moved house finally. I paid £80 deposit
for two weeks plus £40 rent for the week in advance. For
that I get a single bed in the corner of a room. |
| Did you know the
other ‘Jesuses’? |
| Just when I think I am maturing spiritually,
something else comes up during the fellowship that throws me
into further deliberations! |
