ABOUT US

The first copy of The Weekly Observer saw the light of day on March 25, 2004. The newspaper was formed and is independently owned by a co-operative of 11 young men and women, 10 of them journalists formerly working with The Monitor.

The nascent newspaper suffered a setback on November 14, 2005 when its founding Managing Editor John Ogen Kevin Aliro died after a short illness. Few people believed
The Weekly Observer would survive this loss but it has, spurred by the commitment to keep the memory of its deceased former Managing Editor alive.

The Weekly Observer has in a short time grown into the most respected newspaper in Uganda, breaking great stories for the dailies to follow up and championing analytical, factual and balanced reporting. We are proud to be the only truly independent newspaper in Uganda with no political baggage associated with some of the newspapers on the market.

Our analytical political reports are second to none in the land while our focus on education stories has made us the favourite newspaper for parents, students and teachers alike. In addition, we boast of the most authoritative and humorous columnists. Besides, we also offer our readers a good dose of love and entertainment articles.
